FAITH FORMATION SERIES

John’s Gospel and the Readings of the Lenten Scrutiny Sundays

This Faith Formation Class explores the Lectionary readings for the Scrutiny Sundays, which are all taken from the Gospel according to John. The readings focus on living water, removing blindness and on new life, all significant elements of our baptismal journey and commitment. The readings proclaim John’s narrative of Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well, (chapter 4), Jesus healing a man born blind, (chapter 9), and Jesus bringing Lazarus, one whom he loved, back to life (chapter 11). After a brief introduction to John’s Gospel the sessions will focus on these three chapters from John, linking them to the liturgy and the ritual of the scrutinies.
