Eucharistic Minister

Altar Server

Lector

Usher
The usher or greeter is the minister of hospitality to all who gather for worship. Their job is to welcome and accomodate any special needs an individual may have. Ushers also assist with the collection and coordinate those who bring up the gifts at Mass.

Sacristan

Adoration
Eucharistic Adoration is held in the Day Chapel/Cry Room on the first Friday of each month. Adoration begins with the 8am Mass and ends at 8pm after benediction. Parishioners are encouraged to sign up for a specific hour to ensure that Jesus has visitors all day. Read More

Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick and Homebound
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick and Homebound are specially trained parishioners that bring the Holy Eucharist to those members of the community who are sick at home, in area nursing homes and our local hospital. Read More

Care of Votive Candles – Volunteers help keep the votive candle area in the church maintained, switching out old candles and ensuring matches are available, etc.

Plant Care
To help keep the church beautiful, volunteers maintain the plants by watering them, pulling off dead leaves, etc.

Mission Trips

El Salvador St. Sabina began a partnership with CIS (Center for Exchange and Solidarity) in 2014 to sponsor scholarships for students in Cinquera, El Salvador. Read More

Anapra, Mexico – Volunteers help prepare VBS for the children in Anapra. There are also opportunities for volunteers to travel to Anapra to help with VBS in an immersion experience and opportunities to sponsor children for school. Music Ministries

Music plays a large role in the prayer life of the church. Music ministers serve the parish by leading the sung prayer of all who gather for liturgies. Read More.

CantorThe cantor’s role is to be a leader of sung prayer. Cantors lead psalms and sing litanies and other types of prayer with congregational responses.

InstrumentalistParishioners of all ages are welcome to share their talents by playing with the choir on a regular basis or for special events.

ChoirThere are opportunities to sing at all weekend Masses. You don’t have to read music or have a trained voice to share your love of singing as a music minister.

Resurrection ChoirThis is a ministry in the planning. We are seeking individuals who are available during the day and would like to participate in a choir that could sing at funerals.

Parish Assistance Ministries

Help with bulk mailings and bulletinsVolunteers that are available during business hours help the staff when have bulk mailings or inserts to be stuffed in bulletins.

Computer/Technical SupportOur parish does not have an IT on staff. Sometimes we get stuck and it’s nice to have someone we can call on for help occasionally.

Photography/VideoVolunteers take photos and/or videos at Masses and special events.

Care/Laundering of Sacristy items – Volunteers help launder the altar linens and vestments. Contact Susan Ratigan for more.

SewingVolunteer are needed to help sew our altar cloths, baptismal garments, and other items. Contact Susan Ratigan for more.

Religious Education/Youth Ministries

Confirmation Retreat HelperEvery year we have a retreat for our confirmation kids and we need adult volunteers to help with the retreat.

JustFaith Education ProgramThe JustFaith program is a spiritual journey for small groups that invites people to engage the world’s needs with compassion. Read More

Community Garden The St. Sabina Community Garden is a new ministry which focuses on feeding the hungry in our community. It is cultivated by volunteers and donations, and the harvests are donated to local food pantries/free hot meals such as the Lord of Love Community Meals and Uplift Org. Community Meals/Soup KitchenEvery Wednesday, Lord of Love Lutheran Church offers a free meal for all. One Wednesday a month St. Sabina volunteers help prepare and serve a meal. Others can also help by donating a dessert for the meal. Contact Berenice Zayas to sign up for the next meal.

Project UpliftVolunteers cook a meal and/or go out to distribute meals and other necessary supplies to the homeless in Kansas City.Read More

Christmas in OctoberParishioners help those in need in the KC area with home repairs. Volunteers range from skilled workers to others that help with other projects, some even learn new skills while working on the homes!

English as a Second Language (ESL)Our parish offers free ESL classes to parishioners looking to learn or improve their English. The program is run by parish volunteers. You do not need to know any other language to be able to help with the ESL classes.

Advocacy TeamOur Advocacy Team strives to be a voice for those who feel they don’t have one. In recent months, we have been working on the “Love Thy Neighbor” Project – a project focused on identifying and meeting the needs in our parish community.

Fair Trade Sale“Fair trade” products are products that were made by workers for a fair wage, as opposed to products made is “sweat shops.” Every year in the Fall our parish supports fair trade by hosting a fair trade sale. We always need volunteers to help set up and take down the sale items as well as take payments from buyers.

Jesse Tree CollectionsEach Advent we take up Jesse Tree collections of coats, toys, food, etc. that will be donated to various charities. Volunteers can help with this ministry by helps to sort and move items after the collection.

Ladies AuxiliaryThe Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary promotes sociability among members, assists in promoting the welfare of the Missouri State Council of the Knights of Columbus and promotes charitable activities.  Read More

Altar Society – The Altar Society of St. Sabina is an organization for the ladies of our parish.  We focus on keeping our sanctuary clean and beautiful!  We use all of the funds that we receive to beautify our already gorgeous space.  You may see some of us at the back of the church selling religious items for sacraments like baptisms, first holy communion, and confirmation.  If you’re looking for the perfect gift or item, look no further than the Altar Society!  Memberships start at just $5 per year and we have regular Masses said for the ladies in our organization. Contact Cheryl Nichols for more information.
